As of the Memorial Day Holiday weekend, it is officially wedding season. With all the various formalities and times of day, you want to make sure you show up dressed appropriately. You want to get stares from other guests for looking chic, not for looking under or over dressed! Here’s a simple guide to make sure you look second best, next to the bride of course!
This Alice + Olivia flowy and feminine dress is perfect for a wedding on a beach or a backyard bonanza. Pair it with a strappy pair of sandals, bangles and a clutch to finish the look. Wear natural looking makeup for the daytime and your hair down to complete the informal dress code.
I personally attended a wedding in this category the other week, and as odd as it may sound, this category probably gives you the most wiggle room for experimenting. You want to take a step up from the Informal Day category, but not go to full on Formal. Pair your flirty dress with strappy sandals or wedges, and a statement necklace or earrings (not both ladies!). Opt for a clutch for an evening soiree opposed to a bulky purse.
Semi Formal Daytime/Evening:
With the semi-formal dress code, a cocktail style dress is your best bet for daytime or evening. And despite old traditions, wearing black to a wedding is completely fine. Just spice it up with fun accessories. High heeled pumps, statement accessories and a fun clutch is best for a semi formal event. Make up should stay fairly natural looking, and hair could stay down.
Formal or Black-tie:
With the formal affairs, your job is to dress to the nines. A cocktail length dress with embellishments is suitable, but more widely acceptable is a floor length gown. Pile on classy accessories in silver or gold, and wear your hair in loose curls or an up-do.
With all the above, location of the wedding is also an important factor. A church wedding versus a country club ceremony could impact the style of your outfit. But keeping all those extra details on the back burner, hopefully these suggestions help you with your styling for the many weddings you’ll be attending this summer!
